Who We Are
We are an online creative writing workshop system designed for your busy life.
We are a consortium of Karen Craigo (poetry), Karen Babine (nonfiction), and Michael Czyzniejewski (fiction) offering short online creative writing workshops designed for writers at every stage of their craft. We are creative writing teachers more than five decades of college-level teaching experience between us. We believe in cross-genre pollination, in the value of fiction writers experimenting with poetry, of poets writing nonfiction, of nonfiction writers studying fiction.
We know that degree-seeking programs aren't for everybody, and even low-res programs don't suit every writer's needs. We're an ideal option for writing groups who want direction. Maybe you are ready to put together your manuscript, or perhaps you would like to explore a craft topic in more depth. Sure, we could read books and articles on our own, but sometimes we benefit best by interacting with other writers. And sometimes we just don't know where to start.
Our courses are designed around five focus levels:
Classes are offered in several platforms, including individual tutorials and small workshops. Because of the changing nature of groups, classes are easily repeatable. We also offer custom classes for writing groups and book clubs and special classes (with discounts) for high school students.
We also offer academic writing services, from development of critical articles to copyediting or proofreading.
We feel inspired by the paper crane, an image that suggests whimsy and play. It also seems touched with mythos and tradition. The origami crane embodies simplicity and an honest attempt. And by extension, a crane is also a machine that aids construction—that can lift what is heavy and take it to a higher place.
Paper Crane Writing Services meets writers where they are and helps elevate their writing through experimentation, exploration, and play.
